On the Day of Victory over Nazism a UOC bishop praying for Babi Yar victims
On May 9, the Victory Day, vicar of Kiev Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, bishop Feodosiy (Snegiriov) held a Divine Liturgy in the church in honor of the Virgin of “Consolation of All Sorrows” in Babi Yar. It was reported by the UOC Awareness-Raising Department.
Vladyka sent his congratulations to the clergy and parishioners of the church from the UOC Primate. He also congratulated the veterans of the Second World War on the Victory Day over Nazism. After the worship bishop Feodosiy led the Cross Procession to the Military Cemetery, where the service for the dead soldiers was conducted.
As it is noted in the message, the Orthodox Church holds the memory of the Babi Yar tragedy, righteous people, martyrs, their feats sacred. In 2000 there was installed a memorial cross, while in 2012 a chapel was consecrated. Divine worships take place in a temporary church in honor of the Virgin of “Consolation of All Sorrows”, located near the chapel.
