Political expert about Cross Procession: hopefully, the power will listen to the voice of sense and love
The All-Ukrainian Cross Procession gives a hope that the government will listen to the voice of sense and love. It was stated by Director of Kiev Center for Political Studies and Conflict Management Mihail Pogrebinskiy during the UOJ Telethon on All-Ukrainian Cross Procession – 2016.
Radicals understand that the Cross Procession poses threat to them; therefore, the only way-out for them is “to prevent similar actions in the future, to launch a repression flywheel – the one which would enable everybody who dared raise their voice against their position – to deprive them of such a possibility. There exists such a risk and forms a dilemma Poroshenko is faced up to at present. Either he will be guided by senses and hope – and then he will have to seriously deal with those who push him towards war, or he will be just a cog and they will do without him, anyway,” underscored the political expert.
“The Cross Procession and the entire event gives a certain chance for Poroshenko. The chance to savvy there is a powerful force on the peace side. In other words, Obama’s words, “those people are on the right side of the history.” It’s obvious and Poroshenko cannot but understand it. The thing is if he is ready to rely on those people,” he said.
Mihail Pogrebinskiy added that in this case “pressure of the war party will not be so much essential for him and he’ll be able to make a U-turn – I don’t think he has no chance to success. I believe he is misled, he has made heaps of mistakes, yet – he’s got a chance. It means he can level off his policy line and opt for compromise and peace, since his rhetoric is related to peace, whereas his actions are all about war. For this reason I believe hope is the last to die also in his case.”
“Now a ‘hope’ has turned up for Mr. Poroshenko – Nadezhda Savchenko (her name means ‘hope’ ed.), who urges we must ask for forgiveness mothers who have lost their sons from both sides of the conflict and come to terms to find some middle ground. There is a chance – let’s just see if he will take it or not,” concluded the expert.
