Region governor: local authorities put at odds parishioners of the UOC and UOC-KP in Volyn region
Currently 18 populated areas of Volyn region are hit by interfaith conflicts. It was reported during the live program on “New Volyn” TV channel by Chairman of Volyn Regional State Administration Vladimir Gunchik, according to Volyn News.
“There have been fixed endeavors of separate political leaders to undermine the stability in the region. Attempts of local authorities to pit congregations of the two patriarchates against each other are particularly noticeable in Gorohov district and Poddubovtsy village. What is important – to prevent the people from bad implications. Bishops and metropolitans of both denominations should conduct negotiations,” gave his vision of the situation the head of the region.
He promised to put on agenda of the Church Council a respective proposal to set up a conciliatory panel or a council, which would resolve how to find a compromise in a situation at hand and prevent conflicts.
“We do not need these confrontations. We need to preserve at all costs the stability in interfaith relations,” the governor concluded.
