On this day, all three Lavras of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church celebrate the Patron feast day.
During the service, according to the decisions of the Holy Synod of the UOC of 19 April and 20 July 2016, the glorification among the saints of Metropolitan Ioanniky of Kiev and Galicia (Rudnev, +1900) and Hieroschemamonk Bassian the Blind (Balashevich +1827) was held.
Both saints served and were buried in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The tomb of St. Ioanniky is located in the Holy Cross Church and of St. Bassian’s – near the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin.
After reading the Holy Gospel, the Beatitude addressed the large congregation with a sermon. During the Liturgy, an augmented prayer for peace in Ukraine was lifted. After the service, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church led the cross procession to the Near Caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, where a festive moleben was held.
