Developers banned construction near St. Sophia of Kiev

The Kiev Court of Appeal has banned the residential house construction near St. Sophia’s Cathedral and cancelled a lease on 0.1 hectares of land with the developer, reports Zik.

As noted in the Prosecutor General's Office, the Kiev Council allocated land to a private firm for the construction of a residential house in the protection zone of St. Sophia’s Cathedral in 2003.

But at that, the law requirements were violated. The law provides for the construction in the protection zone of only "particularly important buildings on individual projects." Also the construction plans were not reported to the UNESCO.
As a result, the court overturned the decision of the Kiev Council and the lease with a private developer.
