All-Ukrainian Council of Churches to hold a visiting session in Donbass

Heads of Ukrainian Churches and religious organizations will visit the Donetsk region in order to pray for Ukraine, to communicate with local authorities, journalists and representatives of the OSCE mission, reports the Institute for Religious Freedom.

Representatives of denominations discussed organizational details and the programme of activities at a meeting of the UCCRO Secretariat on October 25.

A retreat of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious organizations will be held next week. During a trip it is scheduled to hold a meeting of the heads of Churches and religious organizations with the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Donetsk Regional State military and civil administration.

In addition, representatives of the denominations have planned events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of UCCRO activity, most of which will take place on November 29, 2016.

The UCCRO Secretariat paid a particular attention to legislative changes related to the re-registration of statutes of religious organizations and maintaining their non-profit status, referring to the recently adopted bills № 5050 and № 5067.

Earlier, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations called on Russian religious figures and the World Council of Churches to facilitate the release of hostages in the East of Ukraine as a display of mercy.
