US Vice-President joins Pro-Life March: Life is winning again in America

Pro-life activists gathered in Washington on Friday for the 44th March for Life, buoyed by President Donald Trump's pledge to restrict abortions and Vice President Mike Pence's plan to address the marchers, reports Christian today.

Vice President Mike Pence, a Republican and longtime hero of the pro-life movement, is the most senior government official ever to speak in person at the rally. As governor of Indiana, Pence signed what were seen as some of the nation's strictest abortion laws.

Vice President Mike Pence opened his speech with “life is winning again in America.”

Pence also described future legislation the pro-life movement can expect over the next four years. Pence said, “President Donald Trump will work with the Congress to end taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion providers, and we will devote those resources to health care services for women across America.”

Before Pence spoke, Senior Trump aide Kellyanne Conway stated, “I am a wife. A mother. A Catholic. Counselor to the president of the United States of America. And yes, I am pro-life!” adding resolutely, “This is a new day. A new dawn for life.”

Conway electrified the crowd by laying out the Trump administration’s core focuses in the promotion of life and protection of the unborn. “So to the March for Life 2017 allow me to make it very clear – we hear you, we see you, we respect you, and we look forward to working with you,” she said.

Orthodox Christians gathered under the “Orthodox Christians for Life” banner. The activists held up banners reading "Choose Life," "We – pro-life generation", "Equal rights to unborn people."

After the Vice President and Mrs. Conway departed the event, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan led the crowd in prayer for the unborn and the future work of the Trump administration in eliminating abortion.

The rally comes as the number of U.S. abortions has fallen to a record low. The Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive health and rights organization, said last week that it dropped below 1 million in 2013 for the first time since 1975. University Kuinipiak poll published on Friday showed that 64 percent of Americans support the idea that abortion should be legal in all cases, while 31 percent of Americans are in favor of a partial or full ban on abortion.
