Hyperactivity in social networks hinders communication in real life, – scientists
Modern life leads to the fact that people communicate with one another less and less, according to the researchers. Social networking would seem to solve this problem, but reality proves otherwise. Over the last three years, the scientists have surveyed about two thousand people aged between 19 and 32.
Within this research, the scientists observed how often their volunteer assistants visited the 11 most popular social networks. It turned out that people who spent more than two hours a day in social networks and had many friends in them, twice as likely to complain about social isolation compared to the other participants in the experiment.
The pattern was maintained even when the researchers took into account the difference in education, income level and other socio-economic characteristics of the participants.
However, scientists cannot say for sure whether social networks cause social exclusion or social isolation makes people spend more time on the Internet.
