Negotiations between representatives of the Constantinople Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Church
On May 16, the agency reports that the Patriarchate of Constantinople firmly intends to "go all the way in the matter of granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church," writes "Sedmitsa".
According to the representatives of the Constantinople Patriarchate, Metropolitans John of Pergamon, Emmanuel of France and Bartholomew of Smyrna, the Moscow Patriarchate had the opportunity during the pre-council process to sign a document on the procedure for granting autocephaly, but it did not so. As a result, the Patriarchate of Constantinople, as no other action was taken, may bestow, according to the delegation, autocephaly to the local united Church in Ukraine.
As reported, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, in his turn, expressed a neutral attitude to this issue, stressing that this problem is very significant, and that the decision on the position of the Greek Orthodox Church on it should be made at the Bishops' Council of the Greek Church next October.
According to the agency, the delegation of the Constantinople Patriarchate explained during the meeting that "in any case, the process will continue". In addition, the hierarchs of the Constantinople Patriarchate noted that the Archbishop of Athens could at the moment express his opposition or his support for the position of Phanar, which, however, did not happen.
"Significantly, when Archbishop Ieronymos asked the delegation of Constantinople what exactly they wanted from the Greek Church, the hierarchs stressed that now they were not asking anything, but when the new Metropolitan of Kiev was elected, it would be required to recognize him and exchange letters, as is customary," notes "Romfea".
Earlier, the Polish Orthodox Church expressed its disagreement with the church situation in Ukraine, when politicians help the schismatics receive autocephaly.
