Telephone talk takes place between His Beatitude Onufry and President
A telephone conversation between His Beatitude Onufry and the President did not lead to a personal meeting
During the session of the extraordinary Bishops’ Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Onufry received a call from President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, in which the latter very emotionally told the Primate of the UOC that he was waiting for the episcopate of the Church at the Ukrainian house. The President also inquired why the bishops were not going to meet him.
His Beatitude Onufry told Petro Poroshenko that since the meeting’s agenda was supposed to concern the church theme, and not the state theme, it would be logical to meet in the territory of the Church. In turn, the Primate of the UOC invited the President to meet with the assembled bishops of the Church at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
However, Petro Poroshenko rejected such a proposal.
We recall that today, a meeting between the UOC episcopate and the President of Ukraine was scheduled for 14.00. Eventually, it did not take place.
At 11.00, a session of the Holy Synod of the UOC was held. It was followed by an emergency session of the Bishops’ Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
