Poroshenko: Ukrainians waited for Tomos for thousands of years
Speech by the President in Istanbul-based patriarchal temple after the signing of Tomos
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople for the Tomos which the Ukrainian people had been waiting for thousands of years, according to the politician, Priamoy channel reported.
Poroshenko stressed that now Ukraine is united "only with love and prayer."
“War in the name of religion is a war against religion,” the President quoted words from the book of Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew. “We will act only with love and faith.”
The Ukrainian people went very long for the prayer in the Ukrainian language to be heard in the church of St. George, the head of Ukraine said.
“Among 15 stars of the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches, a Ukrainian star has been born now,” he commented on the signing of the Tomos in the patriarchal temple of St. George of Istanbul.
The signing ceremony ended with singing carols, shouts of “Glory to Ukraine!”, and stormy applause right in the church.
Recall, according to official data, the Baptism of Rus occurred 1030 years ago, in the year of 988.
