A meeting of the White House will be held from May 12 to May 14, 2020, during which US President Donald Trump is to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, reports Romfea.

The head of the Patriarchate of Constantinople will arrive in America at the invitation of the US government and, in particular, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Patriarch Bartholomew is reported to stay in the United States for at least 10 days and to visit, apart from Washington, the headquarters of the American Archdiocese in New York and the theological school of the Holy Cross.

In addition, it is reported that the Catholic University of Notre Dame will confer honorary doctorate to Patriarch Bartholomew.

Details of the program of the visit to the United States are supposed to be discussed in the coming weeks with the Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis), who plans to visit Phanar in the second half of November.

Recall that the previous visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to America took place ten years ago, in October 2009.

As reported by the UOJ, on July 17, 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump met with the head of the Greek Archbishopric of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in America, Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis) of America. Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Archbishop Elpidophoros said that Trump was “very benevolent and cordial”.
