Advisor to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) on the reintegration of Donbass Sergey Sivokho believes that the Church can assist in resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine. He said this on the television channel "112 Ukraine", giving the Holy Dormition Sviatogorsk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as an example.
“All people want peace,” Sergei Sivokho said live on the telethon “Christmas. People instead of war. Children of Donbass." “The Church, naturally, as an institution that is present on all sides of the conflict, has its own voice and has always been an assistant distinguished by charity, peacemaking ... For example, the Sviatogorsky Monastery in the most difficult times received thousands of refugees ... The Church can act as a mediator (in the conflict – Ed.) What the Church voices is good: all the messages are peaceful.”
At the same time, the Advisor to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council emphasized that "peace comes when those who have previously fueled the war are silent" and also "it is necessary to fulfill all the agreements reached and move on in this vein".
As reported by the UOJ, on the occasion of the Nativity of Christ, the UOC organized the Christmas campaign "Children of Donbass for Peace". As part of the action, young pilgrims from the war zone will visit the Kyiv Pechersk and Pochaev Lavras, as well as visit Christmas concerts in the capital.
