“The Ecumenical Patriarchate officially confirmed that it had not given up its desire to resolve the issue of autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, despite opposition from the Serbian and Russian Orthodox Churches,” the Macedonian online publication Religija reported.
The authors of the site stated that the head of Phanar supported and accepted the appeal procedure of the MOC schismatics.
“During the interview, the previous stages of the discussion were raised, including the request of the Macedonian Orthodox Church to return to the canonical name of Archdiocese of Ohrid in accordance with a timely request for an appeal from its part,” the resource writes.
At the moment, in the territory of the state of Northern Macedonia, there is canonical Ohrid Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Macedonian Orthodox Church which broke away from it.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote about the willingness of the Prime Minister of Macedonia to pay Patriarch Bartholomew for the Tomos to be issued for the Macedonian Church, which is not recognized in the Orthodox World.
Back in July 2019, the prime minister announced that the Macedonian government was already working with Patriarch Bartholomew on the issue of receiving autocephaly, and he was ready to "make a cash donation" to the head of Phanar for the Tomos for the Macedonian Church.
On January 13, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople received the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Oliver Spasovski, his predecessor and assistants to discuss church-related issues in Northern Macedonia.
