Yuri Reshetnikov, a candidate for the post of head of the State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, religious scholar, former chairman of the State Committee for Religion told the “1Kozak” channel what he plans to do if he is elected to the post of head of the public service.
According to him, first and foremost, it will be necessary to create the service itself from scratch.
“With regard to the actual activities in the areas, first of all, I see for myself the need to ensure consistent compliance with the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine,” Reshetnikov continued. “The second is the minimization of conflict in the religious environment, the third is the improvement of legislation in relevant areas, and the fourth is the deepening of dialogue and interaction with both the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations <...> and organizations of national communities of Ukraine.”
The religious scholar also said that it is necessary to develop a comprehensive program to solve the problem of the seizure of churches of the UOC by activists of the OCU.
In the same interview, Reshetnikov also drew the attention of the audience to the fact that the new head of the civil service for religious affairs, whoever he was, is obliged to respect the Constitution.
