On February 12, 2020, the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Africa to Ukraine Andre Johannes Groenewald. This was reported on the website of the newly created church structure.

During the meeting, Epiphany told the Ambassador about the history of the creation of his church structure and the granting of the Tomos by Phanar, after which he discussed with his guest the possibility of SAR supporting Donbas reintegration.

“If Russia withdraws troops, then we will find feedback with the Donbas, especially with the support of friends like the South African Republic,” said the head of the OCU.

In early February 2020, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo agreed with Epiphany on the implementation of projects aimed at the Donbas reintegration. For this end, a charitable foundation “The Metropolitan Fund of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine” was created under the OCU, which was first presented in the United States and only 4 months later in Ukraine.
