Church of Cyprus announces date for election and enthronement of Primate

The Holy Synod of the Cypriot Orthodox Church set 22 December 2022 as the date for the election and enthronement of the new Primate, reports dogma.gr.

A press release from the Synod states that after the Divine Liturgy on 24 December 2022, there will be elections for the new Primate of the Church of Cyprus, out of the three candidates who were elected by popular vote on 18 December.

The Synodals will cast their votes for one of the second-round metropolitans. They are Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, Metropolitan George of Paphos and Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamassos.

The secretary of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan George of Paphos, also said that the enthronement of the newly elected Primate could take place immediately after Epiphany.

As reported, the Phanar head assured of non-interference in the election of the Primate of the Church of Cyprus.
