Georgiy Kovalenko, a cleric of the OCU, suggested that the UOC "join the nationwide derussification and cleansing of toponymy from Moscow-imperial symbols". Kovalenko wrote about it on his Facebook page.
"The priest urged the UOC to rename churches consecrated in honour of the Holy Royal Passion-bearers, Alexander Nevsky, Matrona of Moscow, Sergiy of Radonezh and icons of the Kazan Mother of God and the Sovereign to "more evangelical names" of the Lord and the Theotokos’ feasts.
We remind you that Dumenko complained that the OCU had to leave the names of Russian saints in the sanctuaries because the faithful requested it, but he is sure that it is only a matter of time.
As reported, archdeacon Andriy Palchuk spoke about the icons of Russian saints in the OCU temple in Odessa.
