On May 17, 2020 with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, prayers will be offered in all temples and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for the victims of political repressions of 1937-1938, the Information and Education Department of the UOC reports citing the Office of the Kyiv Metropolis.
On this day, memorial services with mourning chime will be performed in all temples of the UOC.
The Memorial Day for victims of political reprisals is annually celebrated in Ukraine on the third Sunday of May. Traditionally, on this day in the temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church prayers are offered for all those who were innocently wronged and who suffered a tragic death from godless authorities.
As reported by the UOJ, on May 8 and 9, 2020, the dioceses of the UOC prayerfully honored the memory of those who died during the Second World War.
