On May 20, 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine voted to introduce “adaptive quarantine” in Ukraine from May 22, during which time restrictions will vary in each specific region depending on the situation with COVID-19. The Cabinet meeting, during which such a vote was held, is broadcast on the government’s YouTube channel.

According to the Minister of Health of Ukraine Maxim Stepanov, “adaptive quarantine” will consist of 5 stages, each of which will last 10 days.

“What is changing? We are introducing certain signs of the epidemic situation in the regions <...>. The weakening of anti-epidemic measures is applied and terminated on the territory of the region on the basis of a decision of the regional commission for fuel and energy complex and emergency situations (commission on technological and environmental safety and emergency situations – Ed.),” Stepanov clarified.

The epidemiological situation in each region will be evaluated by the following criteria:

1. Over the past 7 days, there should be less than 12 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 population;
2. In healthcare facilities, beds required for hospitalization of coronavirus-infected patients should be occupied by less than 50%.
3. More than 12 tests for the 100,000 population over the past 7 days should be conducted using PCR and ELISA methods.

During the day, relevant ministries and departments will have to prepare amendments to the draft Resolution, and in the morning of May 2, Stepanov plans to publish this document.

Earlier, the Cabinet announced its intention to consider the possibility of easing the quarantine for worship.
