The head of the OCU, Epiphany Dumenko, said that Ukraine is following the path of US democracy, as evidenced by the creation of the OCU. Dumenko wrote about this on his Facebook.
Congratulating all “brothers and sisters in Christ and all US citizens who celebrate the 244th anniversary of the independence of their country,” Dumenko emphasized that “America is not called for nothing the country of freedoms, rights and opportunities.”
The leader of the OCU remembered that his first official visit as the head of a newly created religious organization was paid to the United States of America.
According to him, "for more than two centuries, this country has been the embodiment of civil liberties, the protection of democracy and the opportunity for the fulfillment of desires for many in the world."
Dumenko noted that “the United States has been moving towards the establishment of democracy for more than 200 years. And our country also follows this path – that of truth and freedom.”
“Although this is not easy for us, we have now outstanding achievements along this path, in particular, we have won the independent local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is the foundation and spiritual foundation of independent Ukraine,” says Epiphany.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that on March 3, 2020, Samuel Brownback, the US Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, said that by supporting the OCU, the State Department does not interfere in the internal affairs of the Church but supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
