Chief Rabbi thanks Zelensky for the state status of Jewish holidays

On August 3, 2020, during a meeting with Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine and Kyiv Moshe Reuven Azman of Ukraine thanked President Zelensky for his initiative to give Jewish feasts the status of public holidays, reports the website of the Office of the President.

As noted, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine highly appreciated President Vladimir Zelensky’s initiative to grant state status to Jewish religious holidays. On behalf of the Jewish community, he conveyed the words of gratitude to the head of State for this decision.

As reported, earlier the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva explained that the legislative initiative on granting state status to a number of Islamic and Jewish holidays introduces a norm that recommends that the employer provide a day off to an employee celebrating one of these holidays in accordance with his confessional affiliation.
