On June 1, 2023, court hearings were held against Metropolitan Theodosy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, reports "Suspіlne". The defence requested that the measure of restraint be commuted to night detention, but the court extended the round-the-clock detention for another two months.
As reported, in February 2023, SBU officers opened criminal proceedings against Metropolitan Theodosy under Article 161 of the Criminal Code (incitement of sectarian strife).
On 6 April, SBU representatives said that Metropolitan Theodosy was suspected of "creating a website of the eparchy using the template of the Russian Orthodox Church". The bishop is accused of committing a crime under Part 2 and Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
On 12 April, Vladyka was placed under 24-hour house arrest.
The bishop himself stated that the criminal case against him had been fabricated following denunciations by clerics whom he had banned from ministry for immoral behaviour or falling into schism.
