During the 45th session of the UNHRC, human rights activists will raise a number of issues related to the violation of the rights of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, including the situation in Zolochiv city, Lviv region. This was reported by the website of the NGO "Public Advocacy".
“It is planned to consider violations of the rights of UOC believers, including in the case of the UOC clergyman in Zolochiv, the issues of the discriminatory law on renaming the UOC, which is still in force, as well as cases of violation of the rights of religious organizations in 2015-2020,” the human rights organization specified in its statement.
It is noted that the NGO “Public Advocacy” will take part in the session both in person, through representatives in Geneva, and in the form of written and video messages.
The work of the organization during this session will also include issues of the religious crisis in Montenegro, the situation of Christians in the Middle East and other regions. In addition, in the framework of the UN Universal Periodic Review, the NGO Public Advocacy plans to address the issue of changing the status of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul by decision of the Turkish authorities.
As the UOJ reported, earlier the NGO “Public Advocacy” stated that the situation in Zolochiv could be an emblematic example of the religious intolerance of local authorities towards the UOC and promised to bring it to the attention of all leading international human rights organizations. Human rights activists have already requested a number of documents and substantiation papers from the Lviv Regional State Administration "in order to provide reasonable answers to international organizations" on the situation in Zolochiv.
