Minister of Culture: Lavra should become center of cultural and secular life

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has already started to work out a "strategy" for the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which includes "the appearance of the centres of cultural, secular and spiritual life" and the development of tourism. The head of the Ministry of Culture Olexander Tkachenko said that during the TV marathon "Yedyni Novyny".

"The work on the strategy for the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has started because we would like to see the Lavra as a Ukrainian site," the Minister said.

According to him, because "the Lower and Upper Lavra existed in a parallel reality, a lot of opportunities provided by the Lavra were not used."

"We are talking about enriching the life of the Lavra, where centres for cultural, secular, and spiritual life should emerge, including spiritual universities, and tourist routes that people can walk," Tkachenko said.

He boasted that already now in the territory of the monastery "cultural events have been resumed: concerts are taking place and there will be more concerts". Also, the Ministry of Culture is establishing cooperation with tourist organizations, which, according to its plan, should operate in the Lavra.

As reported, from June 20, 2023, the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" introduced a system of electronic tickets. In particular, a visit to the interiors of the Assumption Cathedral, the Refectory Church, first and third tiers of the Bell Tower costs 100 UAH, a ticket with two temples, the Church of the Saviour on Berestovo, as well as the Museum of Miniatures – 200 UAH. The price list also includes excursions to the Lower Lavra caves. They cost UAH 150+ ($6.5+) per person.
