US Secretary of State to meet with Head of Phanar and Patriarch of Georgia

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo intends to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, Romfea reports.

On November 13, Pompeo will begin a ten-day working visit to the US allies in Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus.

According to media reports in Turkey, the head of the State Department will meet with Patriarch Bartholomew to discuss with him "issues of religious interest in Turkey and the region and to promote a firm position (of the United States – Ed.) on religious freedom worldwide."

After Turkey, Pompeo will travel to Tbilisi, where he is going to meet with Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia. In addition, Pompeo's plans include visits to the countries such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the US State Department assured Phanar of continued support and friendship.
