In 2024, the OCU will omit Peter’s fast, as reported on the Facebook page of the Dumenko structure.
The press service explained that due to the transition to the New Julian calendar, it is not possible to follow the church rules, according to which this fast begins a week after Pentecost.
"Holy Pentecost will be celebrated on June 23, and the Day of the Apostles Peter and Paul on June 29. Therefore, there will be no specific period of fasting that should begin a week after the Day of the Holy Trinity," explained the UOC.
For those who still want to fast, the OCU suggests doing this within 4 days after the celebration of the Apostles Peter and Paul Day – from July 1 to 5.
It is also noted that "preparation for this historic decision to switch to a more modern and accurate calendar has been ongoing for several years".
Earlier, an OCU monastery refused to change the calendar because "they are leading us to a new unia".
