On September 4, 2023, the police cordoned off the territory of the Kremenets Theophany Convent of the UOC with the aim of evicting the nuns, reports the Telegram channel "Monastyrskyi Visnyk" ("Monastery Herald")
The nunnery has been located here since 1990, and its premises belong to the state. The last contract was signed by the convent in 2018 for a duration of 5 years.
The Abbess, Mother Dimitriya, addressed a letter to the director of the Kremenets Reserve, V. Mikulich, informing that the monastery had contacted the Ministry of Culture and the State Property Fund requesting an extension of the contract. She urges the Reserve not to take any eviction actions until a response is received.
Nevertheless, in a video, it can be seen that several dozen police officers, two minibuses, and a patrol car are positioned in front of the convent entrance.
As earlier reported, the Kremenets Convent of the UOC claimed a threat of closure.
