Pope appoints author of gay couples document to Christian Unity Commission

On January 23, 2024, Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, appointed Cardinal Victor Fernandes as member of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, according to the Vatican press service.

Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, is the author of a document allowing priests of the Roman Catholic Church to bless same-sex couples.

Additionally, another author of the controversial document, Father Armando Matteo, a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, was appointed an advisor to the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Patriarch Bartholomew, the restoration of unity with Roman Catholics is irreversible.
