Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus of the Greek Orthodox Church believes that the Church is currently experiencing an era of great upheaval.

Commenting on his decision to excommunicate from the Church those politicians who voted for the law on same-sex marriages, Metropolitan Seraphim underscored that "it is the sinners that we reject, not sin."

According to him, at the moment, "the Devil does not want empty churches, he wants them to be full of rotten Christians."

"The Devil seeks to subdue us and deaden, and lead us to scarce communion with God. At this time, the Devil does not want to empty our temples. He wants them to be full of rotten Christians. Mostly lovers of filth... This is what the Devil wants to do, and this is what you see unfolding on many levels," he noted.

"This is a time of great upheaval, multifaceted turmoil, and great spiritual disorder at all levels," emphasized Metropolitan Seraphim.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus excommunicated politicians who supported gay marriages from the Church.
