"By informing the Council of Europe about the decision to withdraw from the Convention on Human Rights, the authorities have confirmed to the whole world that a huge number of crimes against the Ukrainian people are being committed in the state! And now, apparently, these crimes will only increase," wrote Member of Parliament Artem Dmytruk in his Telegram channel on April 29.
The MP emphasized that temples are being seized, believers are being beaten, millions of Ukrainians are being oppressed on religious grounds, any dissent is suppressed, freedom of speech and religion is being curtailed.
"This is what we already have in our state today," he noted. "And the notification to the Council of Europe about this only legalizes torture against believers, unlawful arrests of priests, politicians, public figures, dissenting journalists, corruption, and any infringement of freedom of speech and the right to one's own opinion in the country."
It will be reminded that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has filed the updated information with the Council of Europe "on behalf of the Government of Ukraine about the derogation measures from its obligations under the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms regarding in accordance with article 15 of the said Convention due to introduction to martial law in Ukraine."
According to the Ministry's statement dated April 28, during martial law, human rights provided for by a number of articles of the Constitution may be temporarily restricted. Thus, the Council of Europe is notified of the partial derogation from Article 8 – Right to respect for private and family life, Article 10 – Freedom of expression, Article 11 – Freedom of assembly and association. Rights to property, education, free elections, freedom of movement, etc., are also restricted.
As reported by the UOJ, the MP commented on the suspicion by the Security Service of Ukraine against Metropolitan Arseny.
