Metropolitan Luke elected a measure of restraint

On May 7, 2024, Metropolitan Luke of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol was elected a preventive measure by a judge of the Solomiansky District Court in Kyiv, Ukraine. The measure chosen was two months of night house arrest and wearing an electronic monitoring device. The judge's decision was published by the bishop in his Telegram channel.

The resolution states that the prosecutor petitioned for the application of a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. The judge partially granted the prosecutor's petition.

Metropolitan Luke was elected a preventive measure in the form of house arrest, prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence in Zaporizhzhia from 22:00 to 06:00. An exception is possible only in the event of an air raid alert or the need for urgent medical assistance.

It is noted that this preventive measure will be in effect during the pretrial investigation until July 1, 2024, inclusive.

The UOC hierarch will need to appear before the investigator, prosecutor, investigating judge, and court for each request. He is also prohibited from leaving the city of Zaporizhzhia without permission from the investigator, prosecutor, or court, surrendering his passport for storage to travel abroad, refraining from communicating with witnesses in this criminal proceeding, including participants (subscribers) of the channel called "Doctor.zp", and wearing an electronic monitoring device.

As the UOJ reported, on May 1, 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine reported suspicion to Metropolitan Luke (Kovalenko) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It is reported that Metropolitan Luke "provoked and incited religious hatred in Ukraine." Later, the bishop described the details of the search at his place.
