BOC publishes program for election and enthronement of new patriarch

In a week time, on June 30, 2024, the name of the newly elected Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will be announced. According to the program published by the Bulgarian Patriarchate, the election and enthronement of the new Primate of the BOC will take place on this day.

The process will begin on Saturday, June 29, with the morning registration of the representatives of the Patriarchal Electoral Council. In the afternoon, a solemn Vespers will be held at the Church of St. Sofia, led by Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, with the participation of Primates and representatives of the Autocephalous Churches.

Voting will take place from 09:15 to 12:00 on Sunday, June 30, after the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, which will be celebrated early in the morning, along with prayers at the grave of the late Patriarch Neophyte. The name of the elected Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will be announced at 14:30.

The enthronement of the elected Patriarch will take place at 15:00 in the presence of representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches, including the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. 

As the UOJ previously reported, the new Bulgarian Patriarch will be chosen from among the Metropolitans Gregory of Vratsa, Daniel of Vidin, and Gabriel of Lovech.
