On July 3, the 20-year-old son of Archpriest Oleksandr Maksymiuk (Ostroh Deanery of the Rivne Diocese), Oleksandr Maksymiuk, died while performing a combat mission in the Luhansk region, reports the diocese's secretary, Archpriest Viktor Zemliany.

Local media report that the soldier died while carrying out a combat mission in the Luhansk region.

Oleksandr volunteered for the war in the summer of 2023, underwent training abroad, and spent the last few months fighting on the front lines as part of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. In a month, he would have turned 21.

Archbishop Pimen of Rivne and Ostroh, the clergy and monastics of the diocese, and the laity express their condolences to Archpriest Oleksandr regarding the death of his son.

"May the Lord receive the soul of the fallen warrior Oleksandr into His abode and rest him among the righteous. In these sorrowful moments, we sincerely sympathize with Father Oleksandr and the relatives of the fallen warrior. It is difficult to find words of comfort when the irreplaceable occurs – the death of a loved one. We are unable to change the circumstances, we only ask the Almighty to give you the strength to bear the pain of this loss," reads the message from the diocese.

As previously reported by the UOJ, warrior Oleksandr Marhita died earlier from severe wounds. A three-day mourning period was declared in his village.
