The lawyer of Archpriest Serhiy Chertylin, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, stated that on July 10, the Kyiv Court of Appeals decided to extend the non-alternative detention of his client, but lawyers consider this decision illegal.

According to him, the Constitutional Court ruled that for the category of articles of the Criminal Code charged against Father Serhiy and the UOJ journalists, the investigative judge has the right to set bail as an alternative measure of restraint. Therefore, the defense considers non-alternative detention illegal.

Chekman hopes that the investigative judge will heed the Constitutional Court's decision and the defense's position, take into account the unstable health condition of the defendant, and issue a decision allowing Father Serhiy to stay at home with his family.

As reported by the UOJ, the editorial team previously analyzed the KSRIFE examinations, based on which Orthodox journalists are accused of treason, aiding the aggressor, creating a criminal group, and other serious crimes.
