U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump has chosen 39-year-old Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his candidate for Vice President of the United States. He announced his decision on the social network Truth Social.

"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio," the post reads.

Vance has repeatedly publicly condemned the Ukrainian authorities for persecuting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and called for restricting military aid because of this.

Political expert Kostiantyn Bondarenko quotes a statement by the senator, published in March 2024:

"When American leaders present this as a war for democracy and human rights, it would be good if the recipient of the aid were a bit more cautious with human rights, including religious freedoms."

Ukraine "is doing some pretty bad things," Vance added, referring to news reports of investigations into priests, confiscation of church assets, and arrests of clergy.

"It seems that many in Kyiv are in a sour mood today after the news from Milwaukee," the political analyst notes.

As the UOJ reported earlier, Vance said that if the war leads to the destruction of the Christian community in Ukraine, it would be a disgrace to the United States.
