Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, after concluding his visit to Ukraine, urged diplomats to be more creative in finding formulas capable of opening peaceful avenues, as Zelensky's proposed peace formula is insufficient, reports Italy News 24.
"It seems to me that we are still far from a negotiated solution. There is President Zelensky’s peace platform that, as the Holy See, we have supported from the beginning, especially regarding the humanitarian aspect. In the sense that it seems to us an attempt at peace, although we are aware of its weakness which lies in the fact that it did not involve Russia. It is a plan that can help. But it is not enough. I hope that other formulas can be found that allow some glimmer of hope," said Cardinal Parolin.
He also added that "the task of the Holy See is to try to shed some small light."
The Vatican Secretary of State also stated that Moscow must be at the negotiation table for peace talks.
"I do not know whether Russia will allow itself to be involved through this formula. It seems to me that some reactions have been rather negative. But Russia cannot not be at the tables," the Vatican Secretary said.
As the UOJ reported, according to the Vatican Secretary of State, Pope Francis is very hopeful to find ways to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible.
