On August 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM in Kaniv, activists from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) planned to begin the process of seizing the Assumption Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). However, at the same time, the actual religious community of the cathedral gathered in their sacred place, reports the Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel.
Earlier, the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration had granted permission for a meeting supposedly organized by the UOC community. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the true congregation held another vote.
"Today, when criminals planned to start falsifying documents, the true parish of the cathedral gathered in their sanctuary... All the parishioners of the cathedral unanimously decided to remain within the UOC!" the message stated.
It was noted that by 10:30 AM, the meeting protocols, reflecting the community's will, were submitted to the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.
As the UOJ previously reported, the OCU planned to seize the UOC cathedral in Kaniv on August 10.
