Ukrainian MP: Implementation of Law 8371 will depend on US elections result

Ukrainian MP Artem Dmytruk believes that the Parliament will most likely vote to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the next session. However, in his opinion, the future of this law will depend on the situation in the United States. Dmytruk wrote this on his Telegram channel on August 13.
According to the MP, after the adoption of Law No. 8371, its initiators "will try to play a waiting game".
"According to one scenario, the law will come into effect only a YEAR after it is signed by the president. To achieve this, those pushing for the law may try to introduce relevant amendments. According to another scenario, the President may not sign the bill at all for the time being," he writes.
The MP suggests that "all this gives those pushing the law the opportunity to manipulate the situation depending on the political climate in the United States. Specifically, the outcome of the US elections could influence the further development of events. If Harris wins, the law will come into effect. If Trump wins, the law will be blocked."
This means, Dmytruk explains, that this bill is being used as a tool for pressure and manipulation, and the entire situation could still change depending on political decisions overseas.
"Time will tell how events will unfold, but one thing we must know: all of us, Orthodox believers, need to stand side by side, to hold fast to our Faith, to our Primate!" he concludes.
As reported by the UOJ, Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky believes that the adoption of Law No. 8371 "will obviously bring significantly more problems to the Ukrainian state and its leadership than to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church."
