On August 21, 2024, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv extended the preventive measures against Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshhorod and Chornobyl, the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, for two more months. This was reported by Suspilne.media.
The court ruled that Metropolitan Pavel "is still required not to leave his place of residence without the court's permission, except in urgent cases related to danger to his life and health. Additionally, he must refrain from communicating with the victims and witnesses in the criminal case. He must also surrender his foreign passport."
The hearing on the substance of the case, in which Metropolitan Pavel is charged under Articles 436-2 and 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has been postponed to September 30.
The abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra noted in the courtroom that he completely relies on the discretion of his lawyers and mentioned that he was feeling unwell. An ambulance was called for him.
Previously, Metropolitan Pavel was released from pre-trial detention on bail in the amount of 33 million 300 thousand hryvnias and was required to wear an electronic bracelet. Since January 2024, he has been allowed to visit doctors without restrictions, and in April, the court allowed the electronic bracelet to be removed.
As the UOJ reported, during another hearing in the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv regarding the case of the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel of Chornobyl and Vyshhorod, the hierarch felt unwell and was hospitalized.
