The court has eased the pre-trial restrictions on Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, changing his round-the-clock house arrest to night-time house arrest. This change allowed the Metropolitan to serve the liturgy on the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos at the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy.
During his sermon on August 28, Metropolitan Theodosiy expressed his surprise at the court's decision. He stated, "Unexpectedly for us, last week, one of the four courts handling the criminal cases against me changed the pre-trial measure from round-the-clock house arrest to night-time house arrest during a routine review. This has made it possible for me to come and serve the liturgy at the cathedral, communicate with you, and manage the diocese."
The Metropolitan added that he continues to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet but is now able to conduct public worship during the day. "How long this will last is unknown, and why it happened is also surprising. But I thank the Holy Theotokos and all of you, my dear parishioners, the people of Cherkasy, and the faithful of the Cherkasy Eparchy, for your incessant prayers," he said.
As previously reported by the UOJ, on September 2, the court denied Metropolitan Theodosiy's request to consolidate the criminal cases against him.
