The fact that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church now has an elder Metropolitan as the Primate is a gift from God, said Archimandrite Neilou (Adesi)of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in an interview on the YouTube channel of the Odessa Eparchy.

Archimandrite Neil is a well-known European scientist, professor of canon law, serving in Italy. Previously, he was an Athonite monk and a disciple of Elder Joseph of Vatopedi.

When asked about the Primate of the UOC, Father Neil said that the monks on Holy Mount Athos were always amazed at the modesty and humility of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.

“I think that it is truly God's gift for the Church of Ukraine to have an elder Metropolitan at this time,” the archimandrite noted.

He stressed that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church made the right choice, choosing not an administrator, but a true man of prayer as the Primate.

“If we elect strategists, politicians rather than men of prayer, then we will thus contribute to the destruction of the Church,” believes Archimandrite Neil.

As reported, the hierarch of the Cypriot Church called for loyalty to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry and the UOC.
