Roman Catholic priests of the Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona organized LGBT Masses every Sunday during the summer of 2024 on the beaches of the Costa dei Trabocchi in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
The Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona is led by 64-year-old Archbishop Emidio Cipollone. The beach Eucharists were held without an altar on the ground, with a rainbow flag at the center. Participants were invited to bring a towel to sit on the ground.
The participants generally formed a semicircle around the rainbow flag, used as the altar, which was spread out on the seashore.
Lanciano is also the site of a very famous Eucharistic miracle in the Catholic world, which took place in the first half of the 8th century.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Catholics in the U.S. had celebrated an LGBT Mass on plastic boxes instead of an altar.
