The head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, has urged Hasidic pilgrims to refrain from traveling to Uman for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. He announced this in his Telegram channel.

“As in previous years of the war, we primarily recommend that the faithful consider the security situation in our country and refrain from visiting Uman. Regular Russian attacks and strikes on civilian targets, as well as provocations, are unfortunately not just frightening stories but the reality of Ukraine,” Taburets stated.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that some pilgrims would still come to Uman despite the warnings. “We understand that, despite the warnings, some pilgrims will still visit this sacred place for them. Therefore, we must be prepared,” the head of the regional administration added.

According to Taburets, local authorities, security forces, medical services, and utilities are working together to take all necessary precautions. “The measures are comprehensive. Of course, security will be maximized,” he emphasized.

He also mentioned that special attention would be given to shelters as well as sanitary and epidemiological well-being. “We are finalizing this aspect with the relevant services,” Taburets explained.

During the pilgrimage, an operational headquarters will be set up to coordinate all actions.

Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky said that this year, twice as many Hasidic pilgrims are expected in Uman compared to last year. In early April, around 2,000 pilgrims arrived in Uman to celebrate the birthday of Rabbi Nachman.

Rosh Hashanah will be celebrated this year from October 2 to October 4.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the Israeli Prime Minister called the President of Ukraine to discuss the annual issue of Hasidic pilgrims traveling to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.
