Late at night on September 10 in Kyiv, unknown individuals assaulted "Metropolitan" of Simferopol and Crimea of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Clement Kushch, who also serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports Strana. The incident occurred while he was heading to St. Michael's Monastery.

According to sources, three unknown individuals stopped the OCU representative under the pretext of asking for a blessing. One of the attackers approached him with the words: "Vladyka, bless us!" After that, the beating began.

The police became aware of the incident through social media monitoring. One of the Telegram channels reported that the attack took place near St. Michael's Cathedral and that the victim is not only a church representative but also a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The incident has been registered, and an investigation is underway. An investigative team has already spoken with the victim and is working to clarify the details. Further information will be provided by law enforcement later.

Kushch arrived in Kyiv to participate in the Crimea Platform summit, which starts today.

Earlier, OCU "hierarch" Clement Kushch complained that the Crimean authorities had "looted and damaged" the property of the Cathedral of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Princes Vladimir and Olga.
