President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky extended his congratulations to the country’s Jewish community on the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, marking the beginning of the Jewish New Year 5785. The congratulatory message was published on his official website.
In his address, the President emphasized the importance of the holiday as a time for reflection and striving for a better future: “Tradition grants us this time to reflect on how to bring a better future closer, to evaluate our path correctly, and to fill our lives with good deeds.”
Zelensky also noted that, in times of war, any holiday is overshadowed by suffering: “Unfortunately, for yet another year, any holiday season for all of Ukraine and other parts of the world is marred by war and the suffering of people due to the loss of loved ones.”
The President expressed gratitude to the Jewish community for their support during challenging times: “I am grateful to the entire Jewish community of Ukraine for their role in defending our national independence and for their comprehensive support of our society.”
In closing, Volodymyr Zelensky wished everyone peace and safety: “May families find security and harmony in the new year, may loved ones be near, and may all of Ukraine feel the restoration of peace.”
As previously reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ), the rabbis of Ukraine told Zelensky that he serves as an example of fearlessness for the country.
