In Ternopil Oblast, a proposal has been made to declare 2025 as the "Year of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky" of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC). This was announced by the head of the Ternopil RSA, Vyacheslav Nehoda, on his social media.

"I want to share an initiative that I hope the people of Ternopil will support. I have officially addressed the Ternopil Regional Council with a proposal to declare 2025 the 'Year of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky' in Ternopil Oblast. This year will be significant, as we will celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of a great Ukrainian who left a profound mark on the history of our state and in the hearts of millions of compatriots," Nehoda stated.

He also mentioned that he recently attended the premiere of the requiem play "Andriy", which made a strong impression on him: "This play once again confirmed the grandeur of Sheptytsky's figure and his influence on our nation."

Nehoda expressed hope that the regional council would support the initiative: "Proclaiming the Year of Andriy Sheptytsky in Ternopil Oblast will not only honor his memory but also draw attention to his ideas, which remain relevant today."

As reported by UOJ, an MP recently left the Servant of the People Party due to the renaming of his hometown to Sheptytsky. In addition, the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Museum reminded that Sheptytsky welcomed the Nazi occupiers, and his "actions contributed to Ukrainians joining the ranks of those who killed Jewish families".
