Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv made a statement immediately after believers successfully defended the Archangel Michael Cathedral in Cherkasy from the attack. In his address, he reported that among the attackers was a city council deputy, whom people apprehended and handed over to the police.
The Metropolitan called for the defense of the church in case of further attacks: “Brothers and sisters! If such an incident happens again, we are obligated to defend our cathedral. We must protect our shrine from bandits who did not build it, who do not know how to pray, but only know how to steal, assault, and report to the authorities and their overseas so-called 'spiritual master.'"
In addition, Metropolitan Theodosiy specifically addressed Patriarch Bartholomew, urging him to pay attention to the persecution faced by the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
As previously reported by the UOJ, believers in Cherkasy, led by Metropolitan Theodosiy, defended the UOC cathedral.
