Details of the court hearing in the case brought against Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv, a hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, have become known. One of the plaintiffs is a cleric of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), who participated in the seizure of the Holy-Sretensky Church of the UOC in Cherkasy, reports the publication "Vycherpno". The cleric is demanding 150,000 hryvnias in compensation for moral damage, claiming that Metropolitan Theodosiy allegedly called him a "raider".
The plaintiff asserts that the church's transition to the OCU was a voluntary decision of the community. "The metropolitan said in a video that the church was seized illegally and by raiders, but in fact, the community voluntarily moved to the OCU. His words undermine my dignity as a priest," the cleric stated.
Metropolitan Theodosiy, for his part, rejects the accusations, calling the case fabricated and aimed at personally persecuting him as a representative of the UOC. He emphasized that the allegations are unfounded and expressed hope for a fair examination of the case.
As reported by the UOJ, the court declined to place Metropolitan Theodosiy under 24-hour house arrest.
