Court in Kyiv holds a hearing on the eviction of monks from Kyiv Lavra
Hearing at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
On January 15, 2025, the Northern Commercial Court of Appeals in Kyiv held another hearing regarding the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, reports the Save_Lavra Telegram channel.
The monastery's lawyers petitioned to increase the number of judges on the panel to five, but the court denied the request. Additionally, believers who pray at the Lavra appealed to the court to involve them as a third party in the proceedings.
During the hearing, the monastery's lawyers proposed involving the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) and the Kyiv Military Administration (KMA) as parties to the case. However, the court also rejected this request.
Two of the believers seeking to join the proceedings protested against the actions of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" and addressed the court. They stated that prayer in the monastery should not be prohibited and emphasized the importance of protecting religious rights.
The atmosphere during the hearing was very tense, but it concluded without incident. The next court session on the Reserve's lawsuit to evict the brotherhood from the Lavra is scheduled for January 27 at 1:00 PM. On the same day, another hearing concerning the Upper Lavra is set for 2:00 PM.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Accounting Chamber announced that the Lavra Reserve had inefficiently spent 29.5 million hryvnias.
